The project transforms an old, unremarkable sandwich shop into a poetic, organic refuge in the heart of Brussels. The new interior draws inspiration from the softness of natural caves, sculpted forms, fluid lines, and clay-like textures now envelop the space in warmth. By erasing all traces of the former layout, the design creates a continuous, tactile environment where simplicity, light, and material become the true atmosphere turning a once ordinary place into a sensorial, timeless experience.
At the core of the project, a central island of vegetation brings life and calm to the space, a living heart that allows the interior to breathe. Around it, circulation unfolds in a fluid, circular motion, creating a natural rhythm that connects all parts of the restaurant. Every centimeter was optimized, doubling the seating capacity while preserving openness and comfort. The custom-designed bar and tables follow the same organic language, seamlessly linked to the architecture itself. A refined harmony between nature, form, and function, turning constraint into poetry.
In the basement, the closed and intimate character of the space becomes an advantage. The design transforms it into a calm, almost meditative atmosphere, warm light, soft acoustics, and deep green clay walls that evoke nature and balance. This shade of green grounds the space, offering a feeling of serenity and continuity with the upper level’s warmth. The small waiting area extends this ambiance, more like a quiet retreat than a passage, where materials and light converse in harmony, completing the restaurant’s sense of comfort and well-being.
The ceiling unfolds as a landscape of soft openings, luminous wells inspired by natural caves. Each cut in translucent plexiglass diffuses a warm, cloud-like light, spreading gently across the space. Below, wall niches echo these organic forms, creating a dialogue between ceiling and enclosure. Together, they shape a continuous, sculpted atmosphere where light and architecture merge into one fluid, harmonious language.
